Those that venture north of the Town Centre - something I highly recommend to everyone as there are some excellent shops and businesses around here - might be familiar with the park area in the centre of the Town Hall roundabout. This is a lovely little grassed area with footpaths, benches, bins, and even a architectural feature. It’s actually rather a nice little spot to sit back and watch the world go buy.
In fact there is only one problem with it: there is no easy way to get to it! This park is on the island in the centre of the roundabout with no zerba (or equivalent) crossing to allow anyone to reach it, and the roundabout itself is usually very busy. This means that getting to the island requires either a rare break in the traffic or a life-in-your-hands dash across a busy road which can hardly be recommended.
This is, it seems, another triumph of modern planning...
Item: It’s Official - Local Is Best!
In the February 2007 edition of Which? magazine there is a major feature on how satisfied people are with their high street shopping experience. Suffice is to say, some interesting results came up.
50 High Street retailers were assessed, with each given a percentage rating for Product, Convenience, Service, Pricing, Shopping Experience and Overall Satisfaction. No real surprises to see John Lewis, Waitrose and Marks & Spencer take the top three places, but then came the piece that is of direct interest here.
According to Which? - a magazine that is entirely independent - the 4th best retailer in the high street is... (drum roll)... the Local Electrical Store. Local Electrical Stores achieved an overall satisfaction rating of 68%. By comparison, the big name electrical retailers came out as follows: Argos (24th, 57%), Comet (40th, 51%), PC World (43rd, 48%), Currys (46th, 47%) and Currys.Digital (49th, 45%).
So the next time you need electrical goods, follow the advice of the expert advice of Which? magazine and check out the likes of C.H. Seymour in the Town Centre and Adams Electrical in Little Common and Sidley.
Until next time,
