Each month we will be putting some questions to one of the shops or businesses in town in order to get a look behind the shop front. In the coming months we hope to showcase the best that Bexhill has to offer.

January 2007: Jacqueline O’Donnell, Jackie’s Babywear

1. Why did you get into this line of business?

This is an extension of  the business I used to run in Bexhill Mall. I felt that Bexhill needed a decent baby clothes shop.

2. What makes you and your business distinctive?

I believe that I can offer the combination of excellent personal service and first class goods that a small business does best. We also have in stock a range of Christening and First Communion outfits which can be very difficult to obtain outside of major towns.

3. What made you open up in Bexhill?

I am a local, so opening up in Bexhill seemed the obvious thing to do. I knew the kind of shop I wanted to run, and there was nothing like that available in the town.

4. What are your favourite things about Bexhill?

Bexhill is a very friendly place supported by a wide range of individual shops rather then just a collection of chain stores. It is a nice feeling part of community and actually getting to know people rather then just selling to them.

5. What are you hopes for the future?

That people will continue to support the small businesses. Local people using local businesses keeps the area lively and friendly, and provides a better sense of community and belonging then everyone using the out-of-town trading areas.
