Each month this page will offer an in-depth look at a shop or business in Bexhill. The places chosen will be designed to reflect the rich diversity that Bexhill has to offer.

The Around Bexhill Launch Party

With a little bit of hindsight it was obvious - I shouldn’t have been responsible for taking photos at the Around Bexhill launch party. Why? Because over the past few weeks I have become so used to having the camera case hanging from my shoulder that I forget it’s there until someone reminds me, which is why I don’t have photos from the launch party. I think the word I am looking for is ‘oops’. Or quite possibly ‘sorry’.

The launch party itself was a lot of fun, with attendees from a number of the shops and businesses on the site. Of course not everyone we hope to see was able to attend, especially where they had shops or businesses of their own to run, but everyone who attended enjoyed themselves.

I must break here to congratulate Sue and Alfredo at the Garden Cafe on a quite incredible piece of catering. Sandwiches, scones, cakes, tarts, cookies and more besides - a simple thank you hardly begins to cover my appreciation for their efforts. Thanks also to Carly at Ye Olde Chocolate Shoppe for providing some gorgeous chocolates to accompany proceedings.

It was especially rewardung for me to see everyone chatting away on all sorts of topics, from local issues through to funny anecdotes. The only thing missing from the event was me making some long-winded speech; actually, I say ‘missing’ but as I did not want to give a speech and most people probably didn’t want to hear one then I don’t really think you can say it was missed.

In fact the event was so succesful that we are considering having regular social events for the shops and businesses involved with the web site. And whilst this page is meant to focus on a particular shop or business, it seems appropriate to me that the focus for the first page is on the community and spirit within the shops and businesses of Bexhill. After all, that’s a large part of why this site exists.
