Each month we will be putting some questions to one of the shops or businesses in town in order to get a look behind the shop front. In the coming months we hope to showcase the best that Bexhill has to offer.

November 2006: Gary Peussa, The Funky Frog

1. Why did you get into this line of business?

The Funky Frog line of business is all about funky clothing and funky accessories which make you stand out of the crowd. It's an attitude about wanting to be different. You don’t have to go mad and look like Marilyn Mason but by being yourself and expressing your own personality. When I was teenager I like to design my own clothes and dressed different and when I met Nina in Camden town, she had the same attitude as me, she designed her own clothes and accessories and still does for the Funky Frog, so together our interest in alternative clothing began.

2. What makes you and your business distinctive?

We select our merchandise from small companies rather than mass produced, which results in a range off exclusive merchandise such as handmade clothing and accessories from our workshop and around the world such as Japan, Thailand and London. Our handmade clothing can be made in any size, big or small.

3. What made you open up in Bexhill?

Being born in Bexhill myself it was an opportunity to bring something different to Bexhill offering a range of clothes that normally would require a train trip.

4. What are your favourite things about Bexhill?

My favourite things about Bexhill are the De La Warr Pavilion for one - don't laugh but I love it. I used to play hide and seek in it when I was ten, but the whole structure of it and the surroundings of domes and seaside make it so appealing. Now I play hide and seek with my daughter, and take her to the art exhibitions which we both enjoy.

Also Bexhill has the manor barn which also is a great place for hide and seek! The gardens really do supply a place, which you can go and relax in total silence.

5. What are you hopes for the future?

I hope the people of Bexhill understanding of our concept more that dressing up different and express yourself differently is a fashion.
