Maitreya Buddhist Centre is part of the New Kadampa tradition – International Kadampa Buddhist Union, and it provides a peaceful and inspiring environment in which people can learn about Buddhism and meditation, gaining practical advice on how to apply Buddha’s wisdom to our daily activities. Through taking this advice to heart we can make positive changes in our lives that will bring many benefits for both ourselves and those around us. We will find greater meaning in our daily lives, our happiness will increase and we will come to experience a lasting inner peace. The Centre is a registered charity and is run entirely by volunteers. Everyone is welcome to attend the Centre’s meditation courses and retreats.
The shop has a complete range of meditation books that have been written by the Spiritual Director of the New Kadampa Tradition of Mahayana Buddhism, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. These books are a complete presentation of all the meditations and teachings that will help us to achieve complete inner peace and happiness for ourselves and others. The shop also stocks a wide range of items that are useful to meditation practice, such as malas, incense, Buddha statues and pictures, meditation cushions, CDs of Buddhist prayers, etc. There is also a range of high-quality cards, gifts and fair-trade and ethically sourced products complementary to a spiritually-based lifestyle.
Meditation classes run regularly as follows:
Monday from 7:30pm - 9:00pm Tuesday from 12:45pm - 1:15pm Thursday from 12:45pm - 1:15pm Friday from 2pm - 3pm
