---14th April 2008---

The April Bexhill Thoughts column is up.

---9th April 2008---

The next phase of the overhaul has begun, with the maps all being recreated. The Town Centre maps have been done (with the exception of Bexhill Mall and Regency Arcade, which will follow at the weekend), with the other areas to follow soon.

It’s been a busy time in Bexhill of late, with a number of new businesses opening up in the Town Centre, including:

  • Pizza Plus (takeaway) has re-opened at the bottom of Sackville Road after many months of closure, offering pizzas, a wide range of southern fried chicken and more.
  • The Gurkhas (restaurant & takeaway) is now open at the bottom of Sackville Road, offering Nepalese cuisine which is described as a fusion of Indian and Chinese cooking. Our best wishes to Purna and everyone involved with this exciting venture.
  • The 2nd Gear (clothing) has opened in the middle of Western Road (next door to Mad Expectations) offering new and used motorcycle clothes and T-shirts. We would like to extend our best wishes to Geoff Roberts for the success of the shop.
  • R&D Sports (sports) is a new venture from Rory and Daniel Clifford with the aim of ensuring you can get the sports equipment you need when you need it. We would like to wish them every success.
  • Boldwood Books (bookshop) has just opened on Sea Road, just down from the St Leonards Road junction. Our best wishes to Paul Bethell for the future of the shop.
  • South Coast Studios (photography), a photographic studio for hire at the Sea Road end of Endwell Road.

---19th March 2008---

Some better news this time around.

We would like to welcome some new additions to Bexhill:

  • Gurkhas (Nepalese Cuisine) at the bottom of Sackville Road
  • R+D Sports (Sports) who have taken over from Final Score on St Leonard’s Road
  • Viva! (Healthfood) in Little Common Road, Little Common.

As ever, our best wishes to them for a long and successful future.

Allan at the United Nations Association has provided us with the schedule for UNA-UK events in Bexhill in 2008, which includes a UNA Roadshow in September. Click here for more details.

---4th March 2008---

Once again we must serve as the bringer of sad tidings with the news that Mr Pickwick, the long-established newsagent at Buckhurst Place (next to Sainsburys) will be closing their doors for the last time on the 22nd March.

Having spoken with them I have learnt the reason for this sad closure, but feel it better not to repeat it here. Suffice is to say, I’m sure the people ultimately responsible would encourage you to try something new after Mr Pickwick closes.

As ever, our best wishes to all those affected by this closure.

---1st March 2008---

Firstly you might notice a change to the look of the site. This has been in the pipeline for a while now and we hope you will like this “new look”. As the new banner indicates there are still a few further refinements to be made in the next few weeks, including putting maps on all the shop pages and redrawing all of the street maps. As you might imagine this is a lot of work so please bear with us.

Somehow, even with all of this going on, time has been found to write the latest edition of the Bexhill Thoughts column. If you missed the February column, which was posted late, then you can catch up with it and all previous columns via the Bexhill Thoughts Archive.

In another little bit of reorganisation there is now a Musicians area within the professionals (formerly the tradesmen) section; the first entrant there are our friends from Glenmoor Piping. Additionally, our friends at The Wells Partnership are there under Graphic Designers.

Sadly there have been a few local businesses that have closed their doors in recent weeks. These are:

  • Ink Buzz (Tattoo & Piercing), Western Road
  • Taj Mahal (Takeaway), Sackville Road
  • Caesar’s (Takeaway), Sackville Road
  • Simply Homes (Estate Agents), Western Road
  • Ward & Co (Estate Agents), Devonshire Road and Little Common

In a couple of these cases the closures have seemingly come out of the blue. We would like to extend our best wish to all those affected by these closures.

ABP_MothersDay08And don’t forget tomorrow is Mothering Sunday aka Mother’s Day. If you’d forgotten or just haven’t had time to shop, our local shops will be happy to help you find the ideal card, flowers, gifts and more.

And happy Mother’s Day to all the mums out there from all of us. Make sure you get your kids to spoil you rotten!
